A former leading fashion model, almost 5'10'' in height, Carey was an a fan favorite of top American designers such as Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father, a distinguished scientist, who was awarded the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists 1979 Scientist of the Year award is a renowned geologist. Carey was brought up across the globe as a consequence of her father's career. Modeling began part time while she was attending university at the University of Colorado and caught the attention of an agent of the Ford model Agency in New York. The model lived in France for a short time, including Paris and Bordeaux. Then she returned in New York for her college studies and to further develop her career as a model. She was a full-time student at New York University, obtaining her major in Literature while working on modeling assignments. After a while, she developed an interest in acting. She attended the Neighborhood Playhouse New York. In 1986 she made her first appearance in acting with a minor role in "Club Paradise" with Robin Williams. Her hobbies include skiing, white-water rafting, windsurfing, and rock climbing.
